U.S. Rep. Tom Latham will once again serve Webster County in the House of Representatives.
The Republican from Ames defeated Democrat Becky Greenwald, of Perry, on Tuesday.
''I'm extremely pleased,'' Latham said. ''It's due to a lot of hard work by the campaign staff and volunteers, and that's why we're victorious this evening.''
He acknowledged that he'll be working in a different political landscape when the new Congress convenes in January. But he added that it will be a chance to ''wipe the slate clean.'' He added that he's fortunate to serve on the House Appropriations Committee, which he said works in a very bipartisan fashion.
''I just look back and say we ran a good race,'' Greenwald said. ''We did everything we could with the resources we had. I don't have any regrets.''
Greenwald didn't rule out the possibility that she'll seek office again.
Latham will serve his eighth term.
The 4th Congressional District includes Webster County and all its surrounding counties.
Latham won Webster County by a margin of 60.90 percent to 39.01 percent. The vote totals were 10,996 for Latham and 7,044 for Greenwald.
Latham carried Pocahontas County with 2,815 votes to Greenwald's 1,106.
He also won Greene County with 2,992 votes to Greenwald's 1,691. |
