Ames, IA - Three additional newspaper's endorsements for Tom Latham for Congress make it a clean sweep of support for Latham by newspapers based in the 4h District.

The three additional endorsements bring to a total five for five in newspaper endorsements for Latham by 4th District newspapers including the Fort Dodge Messenger, Mason City Globe Gazette, Ames Tribune, Webster City Daily Freeman-Journal and the Iowa State Daily.

The Webster City Daily Freeman-Journal announced their endorsement of Latham for re-election Wednesday beginning by saying, "Too few of today's political leaders reflect the citizen statesmen that our founding fathers had in mind. Rep. Tom Latham is an exception to the rule."

"He is a working representative because he is there to serve and for no other reason. He understands the challenges that working Iowans face every day, because he has faced those same challenges throughout a lifetime of hard work." "Latham is perhaps the state's most respected and influential member of Congress."

"..true to his Iowa roots, studious on the issues, unfailingly honest, and as comfortable on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives as he is chatting with fellow Iowans in the local coffee shop. We give our full support to the re-election of Tom Latham to Congress."

The Ames Tribune endorsed Latham today with the lead headline "Latham Deserves Re-Election". The endorsement noted Latham's work for the district and the State of Iowa through his seat on the Appropriations Committee and his independence from his party with his two votes against the $850 billion Wall Street bailout bill.

The Iowa State Daily, the independent student-run newspaper of Iowa State University, endorsed Tom Latham for re-election to Congress Wednesday.

Notable quotes from the Iowa State Daily endorsement include:

"Congressman Latham has showed an continuing commitment to higher education and education in general, supporting numerous bills on the subject, including the College Student Relief Act (H.R. 5), the College Access and Opportunity Act (H.R. 609), the Low Income Educational Scholarship Amendment (H.R. 4380), as well as the Student Loan Provision Changes (H.R. 5715)."

"On multiple occasions, he has seen fit to cross party lines on common sense legislation - particularly so with regard to education, but elsewhere as well."

"Since taking office in January 1995, Rep. Latham has missed a mere 82 votes - that's less than one percent. That's also something that is both admirable and refreshing in an era when campaigning seems to have overtaken the real work of governing."

".. Tom Latham continues Iowa's record of selecting quality individuals of character and understanding, who are in touch with their constituencies as well as the world and seek to do their jobs well - and that deserves our vote."

"I am very proud to have received yet two more endorsements for re-election from the newspapers that really count to me - the papers that are working in their own communities to make them better places to work and live," said Latham. "I am dedicated to continuing to work with Democrats and Republicans during these challenging times to protect Iowa jobs, pensions, savings, retirements and the value of their homes. I ask the voters of the 4th District for their support and vote so that I can continue to work for the great state we love."
