Like most Iowans, I am very frustrated with the current state of our economy. We've seen representatives and senators vote to use our hard earned tax dollars to bail out corrupt Wall Street executives who certainly put their own interests ahead of "We the People."
However, I'm not surprised by this at all. Ever since Democrats took control of Congress in 2006, our economy has started to tank. The Democratic Congress has an approval rating in the single digits. Congressmen such as Barney Frank, of Massachusetts, and senators like Christopher Dodd, of Connecticut, and Tom Harkin, of Iowa, pushed programs and policies that were damaging for our economy, banks, credit markets and housing industry.
In short, they were not in the public interest. Instead, they opted for what was good for their own campaign bank accounts.
On Election Day, I'll be voting for leaders like Congressman Tom Latham who voted against the bailout because he stood on the principle that taxpayers should not be responsible for bailing out the mistakes and misuse by greedy and corrupt Wall Street executives. This is an important election and we need leaders like Latham to keep standing up for us. |
