Tom Latham Primary Election Statement
VISIONS OF THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT IN YOUR DAILY LIFE THAN
THE ONE PRESENTED BY ME AND MY OPPONENT"
"Too many politicians in Washington have refused to listen to the people and make difficult decisions because they are more concerned about their next election rather than the next generation.
The race for Iowa's new Third District provides hardworking Iowans with the rare opportunity of comparing the votes, actions and work of the two candidates on the same measures.
And, there is no clearer contrast in the different visions of the role of government in your daily life than the one presented by me and my opponent.
I have stood up time and time again and fought against the big government agenda set by those in Washington while my opponent has proven with his votes and actions that he is an entrenched member of the "Washington knows best" crowd.
It is the "Washington knows best" crowd that has left us with failed agendas of higher taxes, Washington's takeover of our health care, unrestrained spending, increased government control over our lives, fewer jobs for Iowans and the piling of more and more mountains of debt onto our younger generations.
I am running for Congress because I think we should believe in better for Iowa and America. I believe we can do better. And, I believe we must do better.
Over the next five months I look forward to continuing to meet with, listen to and work with Iowans who are interested in learning more about my work and vision on their behalf."
The race for Iowa's new third district, encompassing the 16 counties in the southwest corner of the state, was created as a result of the redistricting process. Latham's campaign has shown strong organizational successes with the establishment of a grassroots network of over 400 precinct leaders that cover all precincts in the new district. The network is an impressive sign of organization that has been in place and very active almost a year before this November's election.
