Congressman Latham has done an excellent job representing the citizens of Waukee and Dallas County in Congress. He is a trusted leader that reaches across partisan lines to work with Democrats and Republicans to produce positive results for all Iowans on issues that impact all of us.

On Election Day, I'll be voting for leaders like Congressman Tom Latham who voted against the bailout because he stood on the principle that taxpayers should not be responsible for bailing out the mistakes and misuse by greedy and corrupt Wall Street executives. This is an important election and we need leaders like Latham to keep standing up for us.

This year, I am planning to vote for Congressman Tom Latham because I know he is a leader that has a proven track record of standing up for us in Congress. Too often, we send people to Washington and they fall in love with Washington. Thankfully, we have a Congressman in Latham that keeps Iowa front and center in every action he takes. I know that this election is not just about the next four years, it is about the next forty. This is an election about whether future generations of Americans are going to be afforded the same kinds of opportunities that current and past generations have enjoyed. We need to ensure that we have the right people in the right positions at this very important time.

In my opinion, Latham understands and is fighting for us. I encourage all of my fellow taxpayers to vote for Latham on Election Day. If enough individuals with the same values and beliefs as Latham are elected, we can put our country back on the right track.

When the wording on the military deployment papers needed to be changed, he stood forward. Congressman Latham not only went to the Hill and put in the bill to change the wording, wording that I was told by many military people could never be changed. When his first effort failed, Congressman Latham went back and rewrote the bill, reaching across the aisle and bringing all the parties together getting the bill passed. We were so humbled watching C-SPAN as he and others mentioned our daughter and granddaughter in front of the public. This was all because of his efforts. It made a difference for all military families.

Greenwald had the audacity to argue with Latham over his vote against the Wall Street bailout. I am amazed that she proudly told voters that she supports the President and the bailout. Her reason? “Doing something is better than doing nothing.” I was utterly taken aback by this statement. Does she really expect us to vote for her when the first words out of her mouth equate to I want to give George Bush an $850-billion check to rescue greedy Wall Street CEO’s?

As the mayor of Boone and a proud Democrat, I felt very strongly compelled to share with you who I believe will best represent us in the United States Congress based on what I believe is in the best interest for the community of Boone, the State of Iowa and the future of our children and grandchildren. It won't surprise many people to learn that I strongly believe Congressman Tom Latham is that candidate.

We are only weeks away from one of the most pivotal elections in American history, and, as Iowans, we need to be sure we are electing the right candidates to lead us forward. Because this election is so important, I am voting to keep Tom Latham as our U.S. Congressman because he has a solid record of achieving results and providing independent leadership that we can depend upon and trust.

Congressman Latham’s website clearly illustrates his vast accomplishments for Iowa; including supporting veterans, agriculture, energy efficiency, and Iowa’s renowned education system, to name a few. Congressman Latham has been serving Iowa for 13 years and is recognized by his hard work from endorsements by credible, non-partisan organizations, such as the Iowa Corn Grower's Association and National Federation of Independent Business.

I am very pleased that Congressman Tom Latham has made it a top priority to help lower energy costs by co-sponsoring legislation that calls for expanded domestic drilling so we can start becoming less reliant on foreign sources of oil and instead utilize the energy resources that we already control.

That is why I support Congressman Tom Latham and am looking forward to voting for him this fall. Latham has sponsored bold legislation in Congress that will grow our supply of American controlled energy by allowing for safe and environmentally friendly drilling and exploration in areas that would dramatically and rapidly increase our energy supply in America. More supply would mean less pain at the pump for Iowans.

Our Congressional leadership needs to step up to the plate and take action to help Iowa's families, businesses and students with the growing costs of living caused by the high price of energy. It's time for somebody to act on the ensuing energy crisis of the 2000s.

As a college student and a first time voter, I am very irritated that we have to pay so much at the pump because we have a Democratic majority in the Congress who refuses to take the necessary steps to help students, families and businesses with the growing cost of living as a result of higher energy prices.
